Sumco to Acquire 51% Stake in Komatsu Electronic Metals

Japanese Sumco, a joint venture between Mitsubishi Materials and Sumitomo Metal Industries, has announced plans to acquire a 51% stake in Komatsu Electronic Metals for approximately 36.9 billion Yen. The proposed deal is said to have been accepted by Komatsu Electronic and its parent company Komatsu. With the combined market share of Sumco and Komatsu Electronic Metals, Sumco will be able to better compete with leading silicon wafer maker Shin-Etsu Chemical.
